WGKF Referee Development Programme

WGKF welcomes referees from all styles of karate, whether you are a complete beginner, an active judge, a developing official or an experienced international referee. Our Referee Development Programme has been created to provide a clear, supportive and inclusive pathway for karate officials who want to develop their skills and officiate within a modern federation structure.

The programme is designed to help referees build confidence, understand competition rules, gain event experience and progress through recognised levels of responsibility. Whether you are starting your first steps in karate refereeing or bringing existing qualifications from another recognised body, WGKF aims to support your development and provide meaningful opportunities at national and international karate events.

• Clear promotion route from Referee to Chief Referee
• Opportunities to officiate at national and international events
• Existing qualifications from other recognised world bodies will be recognised and honoured where appropriate

• Expense contributions at major events, offered on a sliding scale based on qualification level, experience and officiating responsibilities
